What was different about your school than schools today?
This could include teachers, rules, supplies, materials, and subjects. I attended Withrow High School where I was the captain of the Cashmere kittens. This was an unofficial group of girls that all wore cashmere sweaters which were very expensive at that time.
In grade school, I went home for lunch every single day. I lived on Grand Vista and went to Pleasant Ridge Elementary. That meant I walked 12 blocks home for lunch and then went back to school afterwards. Sometimes I would go to my friend Margaret's house for lunch and she and I would go down to the train tracks that ran behind her house. We weren't allowed to, of course. Our parents would have had a fit if they had known. But, we waited for the freight trains because they went so slow. Then we'd run and hop up on one of the open cars, ride it a little ways and hop off and come back home. Sometimes we'd just put pennies on the tracks to see what would happen to them.
